Character Name: Smokescreen
Fandom: Transformers: Prime
Character History:
Forged on Cybertron, Smokescreen had never been off planet prior to the outbreak of the war. He went through all the motions of preparing to be a fighter, enlisting in the Elite Guard Academy with the hopes of ending up in the midst of something awesome; some big fight where he could show off what he was made of.
While he was a skilled candidate, Smokescreen wasn't going to see the battlefield anytime soon, even as the Decepticons uprising began to grow worse and worse. He was, instead, assigned to the task of guarding Alpha Trion at the Iacon Hall of Records. Initially disappointed in the assignment, Smokescreen begrudgingly went along with it, finding the entire thing boring and pointless. Slowly but surely though he began to grow interested in what Alpha Trion had to say and his interest in the history of Iacon and other subjects began to show itself. He soon grew to respect Alpha Trion well beyond that of the general respect most had for the older bot and he started to view the other as a mentor and friend.
When the war came to Iacon and the Hall of Records was under attack, Smokescreen thought he finally had his chance to get into the action! Unfortunately just before the Decepticons broke through the last line of defense to get to Alpha Trion, the rookie was knocked out cold. He wouldn't awake until much later, a prisoner on board a Decepticon ship.
He was able to get free and got into an escape pod, getting away from the Decepticons and ended up on a direct course for the planet Earth.
The escape pod's signal was picked up by both the Autobots and the Decepticons, the latter reaching the crash site first where they engaged Smokescreen as soon as they realized he wasn't one of their own. Team Prime arrived and they were able to escape, though not before Smokescreen caused a lot more damage than necessary. It was obvious from the start that he was a bit of an Optimus Prime fanboy and he really had no experience.
At all.
Smokescreen was determined to prove himself and did just that when Optimus, Arcee, and Bumblebee were attempted to get red energon crystals from Starscream, who had an Iacon relic of his own that enhanced his strength tenfold. Swiping one of the Iacon relics that the Autobots had, after getting permission from Ratchet of course, Smokescreen was able to take out Starscream and procure another relic for the Autobots, though the red energon crystals were another story.
After that, he was a bit more welcomed on the team and fought alongside them in the race to collect all of the relics before they fell into 'Con hands. Things didn't play into the Autobots' favor all too much and many of the relics, including the Omega Keys that were the key to saving the planet Cybertron. Tensions were high and an argument with the others led to Smokescreen fleeing the base to blow off some steam and it was moments after he left that the final clue to the location of the last Omega Key was translated:
It was inside Smokescreen.
The Autobots rushed to locate the rookie but Soundwave had been them to the punch—the 'Cons having figured out the final clue as well--knocking the young Autobot out and taking him back to the Decepticon warship. Knock Out was the one to remove the key from the scout, via the use of the Phase Shifter, and it looked like Smokescreen was stuck.
Except he's far too sly for that when he wants to be.
Tricking Knock Out, who still had the phase shifter activated, Smokescreen was able to free himself and trap the Decepticon medic in a wall. He made a break for it then, using the phase shifter to steal the Omega keys from Megatron and outrun the Decepticon forces. Trapped on the outer deck of the warship, Smokescreen took a gamble and jumped, able to contact the Autobots once he was out of the communication blocks the 'Cons had set up. He returned to the base and presented the Omega Keys to Optimus and the others, though it was a short lived victory as the keys they had were prompted stolen by Starscream after the seeker tricked them into opening a ground bridge that allowed him to speed through under the influence of the red energon.
It then became an even bigger race against time as the Decepticons made for Cybertron, though a gift from Dreadwing allowed the Autobots to turn their own ground bridge into a space bridge, heading to Cybertron as well to head the 'Cons off. Managing to take the others by surprise and steal back the keys, Team Prime made a break for the Omega Lock and were about to restart the planet when the 'Cons arrived and played a dirty hand. Soundwave, Knock Out, and Starscream arrived with the Autobots three human companions, threatening to open the glass prisons they were in, an act which would promptly suffocate the humans. The Autobots were forced to give the keys over to the Decepticons.
In a last act of desperation Optimus Prime destroyed the Omega Lock and any hope of reviving Cybertron that they had. They escaped back to Earth only to find that the Decepticons had managed to rebuild their Cybertronian base in Jasper, Nevada, near the location of the Autobot base.
What a thing to come home to right?
The call was made for the Autobots to split up and Smokescreen was the second to last to go through, disappearing through the ground bridge to what he thought would be someplace in the United States.
Except...he didn't exactly follow orders. Turns out the rookie went back through the portal and saved Optimus from the wreckage of the base, hiding him away and taking care of him. The other was barely hanging on but Smokescreen didn't give up, managing to sneak into the Decepticon base to steal the Forge of Solus Prime which he used to heal Optimus, even when faced with becoming a Prime himself.
He was reunited with the other Autobots and, after getting a new paint job, has been helping the others hunt the beast relics that the Decepticons are after. Despite the Decepticons's attempts to take over the Earth, the Autobots were able to stop them, even with the addition of Predaking to the Decepticon ranks. Smokescreen was on board the Nemesis when the final fight went down and was responsible for stealing the Star Saber back with the intention of giving it to Optimus, though he was thwarted by Shockwave. In the end, it was Bumblebee that destroyed Megatron and, with the Nemesis under their control, the Autobots were able to return to Cybertron to restore and rebuild their lost home.
Character Personality:
Smokescreen is a little green around, well, almost every edge. He's still pretty young in comparison to a lot of the other bots around him and sometimes that can be a real hindrance. That said though, Smokescreen is a lot more than just a teenager itching to make his team proud.
When it comes right down to it, Smokescreen is always looking for a thrill. He loves speed, he likes to be in the midst of battle after spending so long not being in the fight himself, and is always looking for the next big rush. He's eager to get out and do things, whatever they may be though he prefers something involving action, and wants nothing more than to be on the front line every chance he gets. He's want for action and need for adventure can annoy others sometime, since it makes him look cocky sometimes and a bit arrogant, but really he just wants to prove himself and he thinks the only way he can do that is by being right up front. (And, in the long run, he's a very good asset in battle once he stops gloating and running his mouth.)
Smokescreen is very loyal to those he's teamed with, especially Optimus Prime. He's got a bit of hero worship going on for the older bot and, if there's anyone he wants to impress and make proud, it's Optimus. He idolizes the other and wants to be a great hero like him, even if he isn't exactly going about it the right way all the time. When it comes down to it though, Smokescreen is a bot that can be counted on in a fight, never one to leave his teammates hanging or leave them open to an attack. He's matured quite a bit during his time with Team Prime, having learned quite a few lessons and taken them to spark. The impulsive nature isn't there, quite as much, anymore, and he's getting better at actually thinking things through. (Having almost received the Matrix really opened his eyes up to the fact that he had a lot of growing to do still and he's going to keep working to be a bot that would be worthy of the Matrix.)
He's got a bit of a temper, especially when others treat him like he doesn't know what he's doing or can't handle himself, and it tends to flare up when he's told to sit down and just watch from the sidelines. Smokescreen is very proud of the abilities he has and knows what he's capable of and wishes, more than anything, that others would at least recognize that he can handle himself and fight alongside the others. His temper can get him into trouble sometimes because, like most teenagers no matter what species, he doesn't think all too clearly when he does get upset but so far so he's been doing pretty well.
Underneath the front that Smokescreen puts up is a bot that feels extremely guilty, in a way, for what happened to Alpha Trion. He came to see the other as a mentor and friend and he feels like he failed the older bot. It's a lot of why Smokescreen is so determined to prove himself, wanting to make up for the mistakes he made before and the ways in which he failed ultimately. But guilt wasn't the only thing that Smokescreen took away from his time with Alpha Trion. While he wasn't all that interested in what the older mech had to teach him at first, Smokescreen soon came to really start to listen and learn from Alpha Trion, becoming pretty well versed in a lot of Cybertron's history as well as ways to handle himself. It's through those teachings that he's learned to keep a level head when the situation calls for it, never letting himself get ahead of himself or throw himself into anything blindly. He takes the time, almost always mind you, to think things through and always manages to come up with a plan to get the task done. So, see Alpha Trion, your teachings did help!
Smokescreen, all in all, has gone from the over the top rookie to a true fighter and member of Team Prime, proving himself time and time again battle. Is he officer material? Probably not yet. But he's well on his way to being a bot that others can look up to and rely on no matter what the situation calls for and Smokescreen will do his best to not let anyone he cares abut down.
Powers and Abilities:
+A skilled fighter, having been trained by the Cybertron Elite Guard.
+Like all Cybertronians, Smokescreen has the ability to turn into something else. His alt mode, while flashy, is built for speed and suits him rather nicely.

Oh come--
[Someone's been fighting with his new little communication device and been losing. Badly. It takes another moment before the video, that had already flickered on and off once, comes back to life, a scowling young scout glaring at the offending device. Once he realizes it's on, though, his optics brighten and he leans back from it slightly.]
Wait, I got it! Hah! I don't always need Raf around to make things work! Take that, Arcee~
[At least, that's what he could imagine the accusation from the other bot might be, if she was there. It's a harsh reminder that he's alone in a strange place and his optics dim just a bit, grin faltering.]
Ah--right. So. Hi? I guess. Autobot Smokescreen reporting in!
[Oh hey, might not have been a good plan to throw out that designation. Not that others wouldn't notice the blatantly obvious symbol on him designating him anyway.
It was a damn good thing he hadn't been made Prime.]
I'm still not entirely sure how or why I'm here--though there is so much open space driving around has been slagging awesome!--but ah, I need to get in contact with my teammates--friends. My friends.
[Stop putting yourself in a bad position, Smokescreen.]
Can anyone confirm or, well, I guess you could deny but come on, really? That would be pretty low.
[A cycle of vents is his form of a huff.]
Are there any Autobots here? Wait, no, I didn't--oh slag-it.
Third Person:
Skidding around to a halt, tires squealing from the effort, Smokescreen transformed the instant he felt safe doing so (because slipping or stumbling was not something he was about to do where others could see him), optics bright as he stared around at the odd place he'd found himself in. It wasn't anything like Cybertron, so that ruled out one possibility and it wasn't Earth--so there went the other.
Whatever this place was, it was weird.
Smokescreen frowned and immediately activated his comm, starting to speak only to realize that there was nothing but static.
"...Slag," he murmured, trying to adjust the setting a bit before giving up and shutting the comm off. His gaze shifted to the device he'd woken up with, frowning at it some as he had an internal debate with himself over it. Apparently it was some sort of device he could use to communicate but, with who? He didn't understand what was expected of him here, if this was a trap or a test or just a huge space bridge mistake.
It could have been anything! And right now? A decepticon plot seemed most likely. They had sort of kicked Decepticon butt and reclaimed Cybertron in the name of good, after all.
A sigh slipping from his vents, Smokescreen tucked the device away for now and transformed again, engine revving as he tried to decide what direction to head off it.
"Only way to figure things out is to search, right?" he mused to himself before his tires squealed as he powered forward, skidding some and taking off towards the South end of the area. He still hadn't gotten the whole style and skill part of it down yet and there was a lot more unsafe driving involved in getting him into the Southern portion of Nautilus but hey! He didn't hit anyone and that, he thought, was the most important part.
Rest in peace several small objects though that probably belonged to someone and boy was he going to be paying for that later; he could feel it.
